6/21: Check out my reviews of OTIS, EHG and NXNE!  If you sent me a CD to review, I'm still going through a pile of them; if you actually sent a physical copy as opposed to a download link, I'll get to yours first, cuz you obviously care more.

P.S.: Didja know the new Cathedral has Lee Dorian rapping on it?  Yes, it's just as awful as it sounds...

5/15: Let's go (to) Buffalo!  Details on my recent trip here...

4/17: So, whatcha doin' fer 4/20?  If you've got no plans beyond smokin' bowls in yer buddy's basement, come down to the Hard Luck Bar (Dundas just west of Bathurst).  I'll be spinning some tunes, Sin Dealer will be performing, and so will On The Verge!

03/24: In case you haven't already heard, this Sunday's Nebula show has been CANCELLED.  Apparently, the band broke up, although I've yet to read official word on this...

03/14: My annual CMW Recap has been posted from this year's fest.  Check it out!

01/02: My 2009 Year in Review has just been posted!  Tune in tonite, and hear my Top 10 albums of '09 on Smokin' Green!

11/24: Please note that there will be no Smokin' Green this weekend, as I'll be in Calgary.  To tide you over, why not download last week's show, or check out my appearance on The Governor's Ball...

11/21: SMOKIN' GREEN IS BACK!!!  And now on Saturday nites!  Tune in from 1-3 am on your usual channels (88.1 fm, Rogers 947, www.ckln.fm)!!!

09/03: In case you missed it last week, I'm back on The Great Northern Trendkill this Sunday, spinning some Canadian bands with Steve Khan from 3 to 5 pm on Indie Love Radio.  Check it out!

08/27: Check out my "classic" album review of Sleep's Holy Mountain from hellbound.ca, where I've also got a blog.  There's also a couple Where Are They Now-style reviews posted round here...

08/19: Summer's almost over, but there's a couple big shows coming up this fall.  Two Maryland legends come to town in September, with CLUTCH and WINO hitting London and Toronto on the 15th/16th.  None other than Al Cisneros will be in town with OM on October the 9th, with Sons of OTIS opening.  And of course, some band named NEBULA will be playing the Wreckroom tomorrow...
If yer on the other side of the pond, Blood Ceremony will be opening for Electric Wizard on a two-week Euro Tour.  Hopefully, they can talk The Wiz into hitting TO, but for now BC is playing a farewell show this Saturday at Trash Palace.  They'll also be screening The Wicker Man, which I'm assuming isn' t the remake with Nicholas Cage...
By the way, I noticed that the CKLN website went down today.  That can't be a good sign.

08/03: My pics and review of the Born Too Late doomfest have just been posted!  Now, it's off to see Serpentcult, Zoroaster and the mighty Gates of Slumber at the Annex Wreckroom!

06/30: Thought y'all might wanna know that stoner rock legends NEBULA will be playing three Southern Ontario dates in August.  They're in London on the 18th, Hamilton on the 19th, and Toronto on the 20th.  Check the Shows page for more info...

06/21: There were lotsa heavy rock bands at NXNE this year.  Here's whatcha missed!

05/22: A little piece of info to pass yer way: Salem Saints are in Chicago right now, recording their debut album with Steve Albini.  They've also welcomed Al Bones (Mister Bones/Georgian Skull) into the fold to occupy lead guitar duties.  I went to their jam session last weekend, and lemme tell ya, the new tracks fuckin' smoke!  Keep an eye out for that CD when it's released...

P.S.: Check out my freshly-uploaded reviews of the Keelhaul concert and The Womb's latest album!

05/19: Couple shows you should know about in the coming weeks.  Luz Atomica's doing a reunion gig on the 30th, as per the poster above, and Sons of OTIS' CD release party is June 13th.  Posters for that one are on the Shows page.

04/15: CKLN's still off the air, but THTGIR's not going anywhere!  Check out my reviews of the Acid Mothers Temple concert, along with the new Sons of OTIS and Mother's Green CDs.

03/20: I'm not gonna go into the details, but the Ryerson Student Union posted an official lockout notice on the doors of the CKLN studio yesterday, and they've changed all the locks to make sure no one gets in. I'm not about to type out the reasons for this, but their actions weren't entirely without justification, so I'll leave it at that.

Now, I have no idea how long it'll take for this shit to get sorted out, but I'm not getting my hopes up for it ending anytime soon. If there's any online or pirate radio stations with an open slot for two hours of stoner rock, feel free to drop me a line at gruesomegreg@toohightogetitright.com

In the meantime, I've got 40+ episodes of my show available for download at http://www.toohightogetitright.com/smokingreen.html for those of you left without your weekly fix. Hopefully that'll tide y'all over till I get back on air somewhere.  Keep watching this space for updates on the situation, as well as my CMW recap, CD reviews of Sons of OTIS and Mother's Green, and more stuff in the future.

03/04: Just thought I'd let y'all know that there won't be any Smokin' Green tonite due to CKLN bullshit politics. I won't divulge too many details, other than to say that everybody's been locked out of the studio, and an archived feed from two weeks ago has been playing since Friday. Chances are, if you tune in tonite, you'll hear Episode 43 again. Or, you can get your fix by clicking on the banner above to download past episodes.  Hopefully, this shit will blow over in time for me to be back on the air next week. If not, I might hafta look into podcasting...

02/17: There's a couple things I thought I'd pass along.  First of all, the Zoroaster/Amen Ra show on Friday's been moved from Siesta Nouveaux to an indoor skateboard park in an alley by Queen and Bathurst.  It's also gonna start early so you can catch 'em before Witch and Earthless take the stage at the Horseshoe!  Thought you might wanna know...  Also, if you wanna know how I spent my Valentine's Day in Buffalo, click here.

12/15: Just thought I'd give the heads-up that Wednesday nite's episode of Smokin' Green will be my last show of 2008, since I won't be on the air Christmas Eve or New Year's.  However, before I take two weeks off, I'll be playing tunes from my top 10 albums and top 5 EPs, which you can find listed along with my top 10 concerts of 2008 right over here.  Happy holidays 'n shit.

11/03: Just thought I'd pass along that a friend of mine is looking to build her photography portfolio, and is offering free photo shoots for bands in a professional studio.  For more info, you can email her at beatriz.sena89@gmail.com.

10/04: For those of you who download your Smokin' Green fix, I've decided not to post this week's episode online.  While I did play some tunes, I spent a lotta time playing CKLN promos and trying to get people to call in and donate, which isn't really relevant after the fact.  But, on a somewhat related note, check out this video of Sons of OTIS from the 28th!

09/30: Thanks to all who came out to The Second Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular!  We raised 552 dollars, which is sure to keep Smokin' Green on the air for another year...  Those who didn't make it out can still call in to donate on Wednesday nite!

08/26: As you can see by the images above, there are a couple announcements regarding Smokin' Green.  The first is that past episodes of the show are now available for download.  You can get 'em over here, or by clicking on the banner.  Also, with FundFest just around the corner, I'd like to announce that we'll be doing a fundraiser show, as you can see by the poster above.  Since it's a Sunday, things won't be running too late, and all the proceeds form the concert will go towards keeping my show on the air, so mark it down on your calendars, folks!

08/03: Thanks to all who came out to Sneaky Dee's last Thursday!  I've just posted a show recap over here.  Also, I wanted to letcha know that a couple cool Calgarian bands will be coming to Toronto this month.  You can catch Lint at the Horseshoe Tavern on the 14th, and Snake Mountain (along with Winnipeg's Illusive Mind Gypsy Crew) at the Kathedral on the 23rd.  If you wanna see some cool bands that don't come around here too often, then be sure to hit up these two shows!

06/26: My apologies to those who read the message posted in this space two days ago; unfortunately, past episodes of Smokin' Green will not be made available for download.  My hosting company only allows a maximum of 10 MB to be uploaded at a time, and since the average size for my archived shows is 140 MB, there's no way I'm breaking it down into 14 different sections.  If you happen to know of a hosting company that allows large (150 MB) file uploads, or you know another way I can get my old episodes online, then drop me a line at gruesomegreg@toohightogetitright.com.

06/18: North by Northeast is one of my favourite Toronto events, and I even skipped a Diablo Red gig to attend!  Here's my recap of the festival.

05/08: In case you missed the big announcement last nite, the next NoC/THTGIR collaboration is The Last Day of July.  All the required info is on the poster above.

05/06: Check out this review of the Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular from torontoindie.com.  Also, pics of The Womb, On The Verge and Electric Magma have been posted here.

04/23: Do you have any photos or videos from the Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular that you'd like to share? Well, I'm thinking of putting together a section on my site as something like a time capsule commemorating the event. While it was a lot of fun for me to run a show like this and have so many great bands in the same venue at the same time, it's not something that I'll be doing on a regular basis, and will most likely be a one-off.

That's why I'd like to have your photos and video clips, to share with everybody else who was there, so they can remember it down the road, and for everybody that wasn't, so they can see what they missed. I've got a ton of webspace, so I can accommodate anything and everything that's sent my way, although I'm not sure how much my THTGIR inbox can hold. Google Mail's got a lotta space though, so you can send your pics and vids to gruesomegreg@gmail.com or, if it's more convenient, post em up in this thread on the THTGIR forum.

Thanks for coming out, and I can't wait to see your footage!

P.S.: If you're reading this today, then be sure to catch me on CKLN at midnite!

04/03: More news on the album front: Electric Magma have begun pre-production on their latest.  Get more details here.

03/30: Thought I'd pass this along: Sons of OTIS will be returning from exile and entering the studio on Tuesday (April 1st) to record their new album, appropriately titled Exiled.  If you saw them on Feb 1st, you're probably as excited about this as I am!  Hopefully, the album will be out by the end of the year...

UPDATE: OTIS will be entering the studio on the 21st, not the 1st, and the album will be out before the end of the year on Small Stone Records.

03/09: Canadian Music Week is now over.  If the snow scared ya off, then here's whatcha missed.

03/02: Toronto stoner rockers On the Verge have been named as the replacement for Anal Pudding on the Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular lineup.  Check 'em out this Wednesday at The Reverb...

03/02: It's now official: The Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular has gotten so big that it needs another nite!  The official pre-party will take place at Sneaky Dee's on April 18th, with performances by 900 Lines, Single File to Freedom, Georgian Skull, and The Womb, who'll be celebrating the release of their debut EP.  Did I mention that your ticket to the Sunday show will get you into the Friday show for free!?  Tickets are still available online, or at Rotate This on Queen St. W.  Or you can always keep an eye out for the bearded redhead at Toronto gigs of the bands on the bill.  Rumour has it that he might have some tickets on him...

02/23: Unfortunately, Anal Pudding will not be making the trip up from Buffalo for the Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular.  A replacement will be announced shortly.  We still have two more copies of their CD,
A Nice Poop, though.  Lemme know if you want one...

Tickets for the Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular can now be purchased online!  Getcha tix here!  We're also giving away five copies of Anal Pudding's A Nice Poop CD before they make the trip up from Buffalo on the 20th.  Check out the forum for more details...

THIS JUST IN: Redeemer has been added to complete the lineup!

2/1:
When I saw the snowstorm, I was worried that we'd get a low turnout, so I'd like to thank all of you who braved the elements and came down to Sneaky Dee's. You've certainly showed me that there is an audience for stoner rock in this city, and we will be looking to put on more shows in the future.

I'd also like to thank all the bands that played, especially Georgian Skull, who came in from outta town--and from three different towns, at that! Every band put on a great set, and it really was a show to remember. I've posted a recap on the site here for those of you who were snowed in and couldn't make it out. And if anybody took any pictures of the bands, I'm looking to put a few up on THTGIR, so get in touch with me, alright?

If you wanna leave any comments or feedback about The Electric Groundhog's Day Ball, then head on over to my brand new message board. Perhaps some of the bands that were on the bill will have their own boards hosted on the site. (hint, hint...)

Oh, and mark April 20th on your calendars for our 4/20 celebration, the Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular. We've booked both floors of the El Mocambo, and have nine bands confirmed, with a couple more to be announced. Tickets are 5 bucks cheaper if you get 'em in advance, so hit me up at gruesomegreg@toohightogetitright.com, and I'll take care of ya...

1/28: The Too High to Get it Right message board has just been launched!  Check it out!

12/11: Thought I'd pass on this tidbit of information--Ace Piva is no longer the drummer for Georgian Skull.  He has stepped down in order to focus on his studies in the field of Tour Management.  The band will be announcing their new drummer shortly.  In the meantime, Ace will be doing a one-off reunion gig in Hamilton with his old bandmates from Inside on December 21st.

11/17: Eric Kuthe interview now posted in Features.  You don't wanna miss it!

11/03: Al Bones interview is now online!  Check it out in the Features section!
